The PE 100 and PE 100-RC materials have a minimum required strength of 10 N/mm², while PE 100-RC has a much higher resistance against rapid crack propagation. Because of these properties, PE 100-RC material is the perfect solution for sand-bed-free or trenchless installation methods.
The RC material is well suited for fire fighting systems, for water contaminating substances and for protective cabling of high and extra high voltage cables, and has been used successfully for many years.
PE 100-RC black pipes are available for FM fire protection pipes, industrial cooling or waste water piping systems, and protection pipe systems for high and extra high voltage cables.
Polyethylene is classified not only according to its density (LDPE, MDPE, HDPE) but also according to the length of its molecular chains (PE 300, PE 500, PE 1000) or the strength classes according to ISO 9080 (PE 63, PE 80, PE 100). A significant advantage of the material is the excellent UV stability of the material coloured black with carbon black.
The Full Notch Creep Test (FNCT) tests stress cracking resistance. According to PAS 1075, PE 100-RC compounds have to withstand 8760 h — almost 30 times longer than PE 100.
PE 100-RC black pipes are used for FM fire protection pipes, for biogas applications and for protection pipes of high and extra high voltage cables. Open laying with or without a sand bed, milling, ploughing, relining, horizontal directional drilling and soil displacement hammering are possible; burst lining is possible with restrictions.
Connections are made with homogeneous welding techniques: HS, HM, unions, clamped joints and push-fit fittings.
In its structure, polyethylene complies with the required food regulations (according to BGA and KTW guidelines) and PE piping systems have been tested and approved for drinking water suitability.
The very high resistance of PE 100-RC to a wide range of acids and alkalis is explained by its non-polar structure: PE is resistant to non-oxidising acids and alkalis as well as to aqueous solutions of salts, and to solvents up to 60 °C. PE 100-RC has limited or no resistance to strong oxidising agents such as nitric acid, oleum, ozone, hydrogen peroxide or halogens.
FM Approved: pipes and fittings for buried fire extinguishing pipelines made of PE 100 and PE 100-RC. For FM projects, we always ask for your inquiry; separate dimension-related and conditional conditions apply.
FM approved PE 100-RC pipes achieve the pressure class 218 psi / 15 bar (SDR 11). The maximum permitted operating pressure per temperature class is shown in the operational range table below.
FM approved PE 100-RC pipes achieve the pressure class 250 psi / 17.5 bar (SDR 9). The maximum permitted operating pressure per temperature class is shown in the operational range table below.
