Overview

Product Overview

In wastewater systems, many manholes and special structures are required for inspection, control and merging. In the PKS profile sewer pipe system, manholes and special structures with different functions are therefore available in polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). Thanks to the excellent properties of these materials, the sewer pipes can be continuously welded, and different behaviour — such as the reaction to settlements — is taken into account uniformly for the complete system.

PKS manholes usually consist of a PE or PP base, supplemented with precast concrete parts according to DIN 4034 for continuation to ground level. The mounted reinforced concrete cover plate bears the live loads directly into the manhole. The bottom part in contact with wastewater and groundwater is made of corrosion-resistant PE or PP. Depending on the load, the manhole can also be made entirely of PE 100 or PP-R. The manholes are provided with an access opening and mounted safety ladders.

PKS manholes feature a heating-coil welding socket as a spigot end, as well as a spigot end for direct connection to the PKS pipes. Like the PKS pipes, they are characterised by a light-coloured, inspection-friendly inner surface, low weight and very low roughness. For manholes with large traffic loads, a reinforced concrete load distribution plate should be provided towards the top; it transfers the traffic loads into the ground so that the full axial forces no longer act on the shaft.

Manhole Types

Manhole Types

PKS manholes are adapted to the specific requirements of each project. Two main types cover the typical sewer dimensions — the passage manhole for smaller sewers and the tangential manhole for larger sewers.

Passage Manhole

For sewers DN 500 to DN 800, the passage manhole is used. The full cross-section of the sewer pipe lies within the manhole. The entry shaft is DN 1000 for PKS pipes DN 300–DN 500, DN 1200 for PKS pipes DN 600, and DN 1500 for PKS pipes up to DN 800. The channel is manufactured with a raised, walkable berm inclined to the pipe bottom. The upper part consists of concrete components such as a cover plate and concrete rings, allowing individual adjustment to the ground level.

The manhole height depends on the maximum groundwater level; the transition from the PKS manhole to the concrete manhole rings should be above the groundwater level.

Application

  • Sewers DN 500–DN 800
  • Full sewer cross-section inside the manhole
  • Entry shaft DN 1000–DN 1500
  • Raised, walkable berm channel
  • Concrete upper section and cover rings

Tangential Manhole

The PKS tangential manhole is used for larger sewers from DN 600. The sewer pipe is located outside the centre axis of the manhole and below the manhole base, which allows the manhole to be uniformly designed in DN 1000. A load-bearing reinforced concrete cover plate is provided as the top part of the manhole.

The transition to the concrete cover plate should be above the maximum groundwater level.

Application

  • Larger sewers from DN 600
  • Sewer pipe outside manhole centre axis
  • Uniform DN 1000 manhole arrangement
  • Reinforced concrete cover plate
  • Groundwater-level consideration
