THERMTANK is more than a conventional rainwater storage tank — it combines rainwater retention and geothermal energy in one system, creating synergy effects for builders, planners and local authorities.
The system enables large quantities of rainwater to be collected, stored and retained in a controlled manner. At the heart of the system is the integrated support-pipe profile: it provides the necessary long-term ring stiffness and simultaneously acts as a heat exchanger. A heat-transfer medium circulates through the integrated profile, absorbing thermal energy from the surrounding soil and the stored precipitation and transferring it to a heat pump.
This combination allows the underground storage volume to serve two functions simultaneously: intelligent rainwater management and renewable thermal-energy recovery. THERMTANK is manufactured from durable, recyclable polyethylene (PE) and is ideal for sustainable infrastructure and commercial building projects where resource efficiency and dual use of underground space are required.
Flood protection
Controlled retention and storage of large rainwater volumes to reduce peak runoff and protect against flooding.
Groundwater recharge
Managed infiltration and controlled release of stored rainwater to support groundwater replenishment.
Water storage
Temporary storage of large quantities of rainwater for controlled discharge or reuse.
Sewer relief
Reduces hydraulic load on the public sewer network during heavy rainfall events.
The integrated support-pipe profile provides the required long-term ring stiffness for the underground storage tank. This same profile simultaneously acts as a thermal heat exchanger.
A heat-transfer medium circulates through the integrated system, absorbing thermal energy from both the surrounding ground and the stored rainwater. The recovered thermal energy is then transferred to a heat pump for heating or cooling.
This combination allows the underground storage volume to serve two functions simultaneously: controlled rainwater management and renewable thermal-energy recovery.
The standard THERMTANK has a storage capacity of approximately 23,400 litres and is designed for the temporary storage and retention of large quantities of rainwater.
In its basic version, the THERMTANK consists of two end modules with domes. Each end module includes:
Connection pipes can also be equipped with the THERMPIPE system to increase utilisation of the geothermal potential in the surrounding soil, enabling additional geothermal energy recovery.
The standard THERMTANK configuration provides approximately 23,400 litres of controlled temporary rainwater storage.
