A DN1600 PE 100-RC outfall pipeline installed in Bergen to discharge surface water into Solheimviken Fjord with prefabricated welded pipe sections.
In Bergen, Norway, a new DN1600 outfall pipeline was planned to extend an existing public culvert and discharge surface water into Solheimviken Fjord. After technical consultation, the city of Bergen and Multiconsult selected a welded PKS system made from PE 100-RC.
The project used prefabricated pipe strings that were welded above ground and then installed in the trench and underwater. Concrete anti-buoyancy rings were used to secure the pipes, and underwater work was carried out by experienced marine contractors. The installation was completed between April and the end of August 2014 without significantly disturbing the nearby harbour, buildings, or traffic.
For marine outfall and surface-water discharge projects, prefabricated welded PE pipe systems can simplify installation, reduce disruption, and provide long-term resistance in demanding water environments.
